Asaf Weinbroom is an Israeli industrial designer, a graduate of the Industrial Design department in Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.
In 2009 Asaf established a design studio offering lighting design, production and manufacture. The production is based on a handmade process using mainly the lathe machine. All the products are made from wood while some of them incorporate various materials such as: corian, formica, brass, copper, glass and more.
Asaf's decision to use wood, a renewable resource, in the light elements that he device, creates a sense of natural one-of-a-kind look, warmth, and most importantly: emphases high-end handmade craftsmanship.
Israel is small country with a small industry in comparison to the world, there for the designer becomes the manufacturer of his own designs.
Living in a young country with a short history and little craftsmanship tradition to learn from, the self production process becomes a journey to the unknown.
Freed from mass production and factory restrictions, Asaf is able to experiment with different techniques and mix together all kinds of materials and textures very much resembling the work of a fashion designer. Fascinated with the movement of objects, Asaf's idea for the final object always sparks from a mechanism or a joint. This choreography is manifested in all collections; each product is adjustable or has several positioning options.
These visions blur the lines between art and design blending the old world craftsmanship with nowadays industrial methods; creating the finest custom wood lighting elements. The products represent the utmost in quality and timeless beauty that will stand the test of time.
